• SCS Global has validated and verified the quality and traceability of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission removals and reductions generated by farmers on the InSoil Carbon Farming project.
  • The project has successfully driven the removal of 154.915 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions through the implementation of regenerative practices across 40 different farms covering almost 20 thousand hectares located in Lithuania.
  • InSoil conducts soil samples combined with satellite data and other advanced digital Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) tools to calculate impact of sustainable agriculture on a field and soil type level.

InSoil, an exclusive partner of Carbon Credit Ukraine, has had its soil carbon program successfully validated and verified by SCS Global, a world leader in independent certification, validation, and verification.

The audit confirms that InSoil’s carbon farming program meets the rigorous requirements of the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and complies with the VM0042 Methodology for Improved Agricultural Land Management.

“Soil degradation caused by conventional farming practices poses one of the greatest risks to food security, biodiversity, and human well-being. Soil carbon markets provide a critical mechanism to drive large-scale adoption of regenerative agriculture. Today, we have over 700,000 hectares in our programme, positioning us to issue more than 4 million verified carbon credits by 2027,” said Laimonas Noreika, CEO of InSoil.

SCS Global verified a total of 154.915 tCO2e metric tonnes of CO₂e in greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions and removals for the monitoring period from 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2023 for the InSoil project in Lithuania. The same procedure will be followed for the project in Ukraine that is currently under development in the Verra registry.

“The successful verification of InSoil’s programme by SCS Global is a milestone not only for Lithuania but also for Ukraine. It proves that high-integrity soil carbon projects can deliver measurable climate impact, create new income streams for farmers, and strengthen the resilience of our agricultural sector. As InSoil’s exclusive partner, we are proud to be bringing the same internationally recognised standards to Ukraine, ensuring our farmers can access global carbon markets with full confidence,” -Olena Kononenko, head of the Carbon Credit Ukraine project, emphasized.

The program incentivises European farmers to adopt regenerative agricultural practices—such as reduced soil disturbance, cover cropping, organic fertiliser use, and residue management—leading to higher rates of soil carbon sequestration and reduced GHG emissions compared to conventional farming methods. Farmers benefit directly by generating carbon credits, which can be sold to companies seeking credible, traceable climate action beyond their supply chains.

SCS Global’s assessment involved a comprehensive review of project design, implementation, and results, including on-site inspections and detailed data analysis. The audit confirmed compliance with Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) methodologies.

Following the report, InSoil already submitted a registration request with Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) under its VM0042 Methodology for Improved Agricultural Land Management.
